INDO-SKYTHIANS. Azes, circa 58-12 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 9.42 g, 12 h), Indian standard, uncertain mint in western Gandhara. BAΣIΛEΩΣ BAΣIΛEΩN MEΓAΛOY / AZOY King on horseback to right, raising his right hand and holding whip in his left; to right, Kharoshthi 'la'. Rev. 'Maharajasa rajarajasa mahatasa Ayasa' ('of Great King, King of Kings Azes the Great' in Kharoshthi) Athena standing facing, raising her right hand in blessing and holding shield in her left; behind her back, spear; to left and right, monograms. HGC 12, 635. Senior 96.43T. A well struck and attractive example. Light doubling on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
